- Radio: Aeotec's spec sheet lists Z-Wave Plus, Zigbee, Thread, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac and an Ethernet port. The EU model GP-AEOHUBV3EU uses Z-Wave at 868.4 MHz. Bluetooth is not mentioned.
- Hub: It is the hub.
- Local control: Aeotec's FAQ says only some limited automations with some devices run without internet; app access and remote control need it. The global Hub 2 page claims more local execution but is a different model.
- Connects devices over: Aeotec's SmartThings page also lists Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter, Thread and Wi-Fi devices. Z-Wave devices must be EU (868.4 MHz) models.
- Matter bridge: Aeotec's page says it works with Matter devices but does not describe the hub as a Matter bridge.
- Thread border router: Aeotec says the hub acts as a border router in the Thread network.
- Max devices: Aeotec gives separate limits of up to 100 Zigbee and up to 100 Z-Wave devices, so no single number is recorded.
Before you buy
- The hub needs the SmartThings app and an internet connection for app access and remote control, and Aeotec's FAQ says only limited automations run without internet.
- This EU model (GP-AEOHUBV3EU) runs Z-Wave at 868.4 MHz, while the US model (GP-AEOHUBV3US) uses 908.4 MHz, so Z-Wave devices must match the hub's region.
