Kasa KP125M: what it works with
TP-Link · model Kasa KP125M · sold in US
Yes to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings: the Kasa KP125M joins all four over Matter, and Home Assistant can add it through its TP-Link integration or Matter. It's a slim 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi plug for US outlets, rated 15 A / 1800 W at 100–120 V, set up in the Kasa app with no hub, and it keeps LAN control if your internet drops. The Kasa or Tapo app shows energy use. Firmware 1.4.1 sends those readings over Matter to SmartThings and Home Assistant, but Apple Home doesn't display them.

Ecosystem compatibility
| Platform | Works? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Matter | Yes, over Wi-Fi | TP-Link calls it Kasa's first Matter-certified plug. We did not find a CSA listing that names the KP125M model number.[1],[2],[5] Other Matter plugs |
| Apple Home | Via Matter | Set up in Apple Home by scanning the Matter code. We found no separate HomeKit (HAP) support for this model.[1],[7] |
| Google Home | Via Matter | Set up in the Google Home app through Matter; needs a Google Matter controller.[1],[7] |
| Amazon Alexa | Via Matter | TP-Link says Matter Kasa devices connect to Alexa directly and don't need the Kasa skill. Needs an Echo that works as a Matter controller.[2],[6] |
| SmartThings | Via Matter | TP-Link lists Samsung SmartThings; setup is through Matter.[1],[7] |
| Home Assistant | Yes | Home Assistant's TP-Link Smart Home integration lists the KP125M with a footnote we could not read; it needs TP-Link account credentials for newer devices. It can also be added through the Matter integration.[8],[9] |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.
Specs that matter for setup
- Radio: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n). The datasheet lists Bluetooth for setup only.
- Hub: Connects straight to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and is set up in the Kasa app, with no hub. Third-party platforms need their own Matter controller.
- Local control: TP-Link says it keeps LAN control between devices even if the home internet goes offline.
- Energy monitoring: Real-time and historical use in the Kasa (or Tapo) app. Firmware 1.4.1 (Aug 2026) adds Matter energy reporting; TP-Link verifies it in SmartThings and Home Assistant, and says Apple Home doesn't show energy.
- Max load: 15 A / 1800 W for general use and resistive loads at 100–120 V; 1/6 HP motor.
Before you buy

- We found no HomeKit (HAP) mode, so Apple Home works only through Matter.
- Apple Home doesn't show energy data; Matter energy readings need firmware 1.4.1 or later and are verified only in SmartThings and Home Assistant.
- Alexa needs an Echo that works as a Matter controller; Matter Kasa devices don't use the Kasa skill.
- Home Assistant's TP-Link integration needs your TP-Link account credentials for newer devices.
- Motor loads are limited to 1/6 HP.
