Tapo P125M: what it works with
TP-Link · model Tapo P125M · sold in US
Matter does the heavy lifting on the Tapo P125M: it's how the plug reaches Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings. There's no HomeKit mode, and TP-Link says Matter Tapo devices connect to Alexa directly rather than through the Tapo skill. Home Assistant can use its TP-Link integration or Matter. This US plug runs on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (Bluetooth is for setup only), is rated 15 A / 1800 W, and keeps working on your home network without internet. TP-Link's US specs don't list energy monitoring.

Ecosystem compatibility
| Platform | Works? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Matter | Yes, over Wi-Fi | TP-Link calls it Matter-certified and the US datasheet lists Matter among its certifications. We did not find a CSA listing that names the P125M model number.[1],[2],[3] Other Matter plugs |
| Apple Home | Via Matter | TP-Link lists Apple Home. The plug has no HomeKit (HAP) mode, so this works through Matter and needs an Apple home hub.[1] |
| Google Home | Via Matter | Added in the Google Home app by scanning the Matter code. Linking through Tapo Actions may also work, but we found no source that confirms it for this model.[1],[5] |
| Amazon Alexa | Via Matter | TP-Link's Alexa guide says Matter-enabled Tapo devices connect to Alexa directly, not through the Tapo skill. Needs an Echo that works as a Matter controller.[1],[5],[6] |
| SmartThings | Via Matter | TP-Link lists Samsung SmartThings. We could not confirm a direct Tapo cloud integration, so we record it as Matter.[1],[5] |
| Home Assistant | Yes | Home Assistant's TP-Link Smart Home integration lists the P125M among supported Tapo plugs. It can also be added through the Matter integration.[7],[8] |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.
Specs that matter for setup
- Hub required
- No[4]
- Energy monitoring
- Unconfirmed
- Radio: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n). TP-Link lists Bluetooth for setup only.
- Hub: No hub is needed with the Tapo app. Third-party ecosystems need their own Matter controller.
- Local control: TP-Link says Matter devices on your home network can still be controlled from the Tapo app or another Matter app without internet.
- Energy monitoring: The US product page and datasheet don't list energy monitoring, and TP-Link forum staff say the P125M lacks it. The Italian datasheet lists it, so regional versions may differ. No official US statement either way.
- Max load: 15 A / 1800 W maximum for resistive loads at 100–125 V.
Before you buy
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.

- Alexa needs an Echo that works as a Matter controller; the Tapo skill doesn't cover it.
- Don't count on energy monitoring: the US product page and datasheet don't list it, though some regional versions may differ.
