Kasa KL125 (US): what it works with
TP-Link Kasa · model KL125 · For the US and Canada
- Matter Unconfirmed
- Apple Home Unconfirmed
- Google Home Yes
- Amazon Alexa Yes
- SmartThings Yes
- Home Assistant Yes
No hub, no bridge: the Kasa KL125 joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi directly and works with Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings through Kasa's own integrations. Home Assistant's official TP-Link Smart Home integration runs it on the local network. It's a US full-colour bulb on an E26 base, 800 lumens (a 60 W equivalent), with tunable white from 2500 to 6500 K. Apple Home is the gap: Kasa doesn't list it, and we found no Matter certification for the KL125.

Ecosystem compatibility
| Platform | Works? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Matter | Unconfirmed | Neither the Kasa product page nor the KL125 datasheet mentions Matter, and we found no CSA listing for the KL125. |
| Apple Home | Unconfirmed | Kasa lists Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings for this bulb, and a TP-Link community guide to Apple Home lists no Kasa lights. No source states 'not supported' outright, and Matter status is unconfirmed.[1],[3] |
| Google Home | Yes | Works with Google Assistant through the Kasa cloud integration.[1],[2] |
| Amazon Alexa | Yes | Works with Alexa through the Kasa skill.[1],[2] |
| SmartThings | Yes | Kasa lists SmartThings as a supported voice/smart-home platform for the KL125.[1],[2] |
| Home Assistant | Yes | The official TP-Link Smart Home integration lists the KL125 among supported bulbs. It notes no light effects on Kasa bulbs.[4] |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.
Specs that matter for setup
- Radio: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) per the datasheet; the bulb joins the home network directly.
- Hub: For bulbs, this means needing a bridge or hub for basic app control. The KL125 connects straight to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and is controlled from the Kasa app.
- Local control: Home Assistant's integration talks to Kasa devices on the LAN without the TP-Link cloud (local polling). Newer firmware may need TP-Link cloud credentials once to authenticate.
- Light: Full colour plus tunable white from 2500 to 6500 K.
- Brightness: 800 lm, a 60 W equivalent.
Before you buy
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; it won't join a 5 GHz network.
- Apple Home isn't listed by Kasa, and there's no confirmed Matter support to fall back on.
- On newer firmware, Home Assistant may ask for your TP-Link cloud credentials once to authenticate.
- Home Assistant doesn't offer the bulb's light effects.
