Ecosystem compatibility
| Platform | Works? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Matter | Unconfirmed | The switch itself has no CSA listing. Hue's Matter page says Hue products work with Matter when connected through the Hue Bridge; that makes it a bridged device at most, not a certified one.[1],[3] |
| Apple Home | Via Philips Hue Bridge | Hue's US product page marks this switch as HomeKit compatible, in addition to its general third-party list; it reaches Apple Home through the Hue Bridge. The page doesn't say which press actions Apple Home can use.[1] About the Hue Bridge (US) |
| Google Home | Unconfirmed | Google Home appears only in Hue's brand-wide third-party list. Hue says its products work with Matter through the Bridge, but no Hue or Google page says this switch's presses can trigger Google Home automations. |
| Amazon Alexa | Unconfirmed | Alexa appears only in Hue's brand-wide third-party list. Tech blogs report Hue switches as Alexa routine triggers since 2023, but no Hue or Amazon page confirms it for this switch. |
| SmartThings | Unconfirmed | SmartThings appears only in Hue's brand-wide third-party list. Only community posts discuss Hue switches in SmartThings; no Hue or Samsung page confirms this switch's presses reach it. |
| Home Assistant | Via Philips Hue Bridge | Home Assistant's Hue integration names the Dimmer Switch and supports Hue remotes as device triggers for automations through the Bridge, with local push on V2 bridges.[2] About the Hue Bridge (US) |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.
Specs that matter for setup
- Radio: Hue's page lists Bluetooth and Zigbee. UPC 046677562779.
- Hub: Hue says a Bridge is required for this switch: without one it pairs directly to up to 10 lights, but changing what it does needs a Bridge. Hue's setup guide adds that app control, routines and out-of-home access need a Bridge. With a Bridge it handles up to 50 lights.
- Local control: Hue's page says it works without Wi-Fi; it talks Zigbee straight to lights or to the Hue Bridge, and Home Assistant's Hue integration uses the Bridge's local event stream.
- Buttons: Hue's setup guide says each of the four buttons can be programmed (on, dim up, dim down, Hue button); the spec sheet counts 2 configurable buttons. UPC 046677562779, 12NC 929002398601.
- Power: One CR2032 coin cell is in the box.
Before you buy
- Hue's page says a Bridge is needed to change what the buttons do; without one it controls up to 10 lights with default behaviour.
- Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings support for its button presses is not confirmed by Hue, Google, Amazon or Samsung.
