Inovelli Blue Series 2-1 Switch (US): what it works with
Inovelli · model VZM31-SN · For the US and Canada
- Matter Unconfirmed
- Apple Home Unconfirmed
- Google Home Unconfirmed
- Amazon Alexa Via Amazon Echo with built-in Zigbee hub
- SmartThings Via SmartThings hub (Zigbee)
- Home Assistant Via Zigbee coordinator (ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT)
Zigbee only, the Inovelli Blue Series 2-1 (VZM31-SN) is a wall switch that runs as a dimmer or a plain on/off switch. It works with or without a neutral, but without one you need a bypass at the fixture that is not in the box. It needs a Zigbee hub: Inovelli lists SmartThings, Hubitat, Home Assistant (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT) and Echo models with a built-in Zigbee hub. Apple Home and Google Home are not confirmed.

Ecosystem compatibility
| Platform | Works? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Matter | Unconfirmed | This is the Zigbee version. The Inovelli page also covers a Matter version, which is a different model; we found no Matter claim for the VZM31-SN. |
| Apple Home | Unconfirmed | Inovelli's pages we saw don't mention Apple Home for the Zigbee version. |
| Google Home | Unconfirmed | Inovelli's pages we saw don't mention Google Home for the Zigbee version. |
| Amazon Alexa | Via Amazon Echo with built-in Zigbee hub | Inovelli lists Amazon Echo as a compatible hub, but only Echo versions with a built-in Zigbee hub (Inovelli keeps a compatibility chart). Firmware features such as multi-tap scenes work only where the hub supports them.[1] |
| SmartThings | Via SmartThings hub (Zigbee) | Inovelli lists SmartThings among hubs that support the switch's advanced features and publishes a SmartThings setup guide.[1],[3] |
| Home Assistant | Via Zigbee coordinator (ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT) | Inovelli lists Home Assistant through ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT. Both are generic Zigbee integrations, not an Inovelli integration, and need a Zigbee coordinator such as a USB adapter.[1],[4] |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.

- Dimmer
- Yes[1]
- Needs neutral wire
- No[1]
- Gangs / channels
- Unconfirmed
- Radio: Zigbee 3.0.
- Hub: Needs a Zigbee hub or coordinator (SmartThings, Hubitat, an Echo with Zigbee, or a USB adapter with Home Assistant).
- Local control: Zigbee control through a local coordinator (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT) doesn't need Inovelli's cloud, but no Inovelli or Home Assistant page states local control for this switch in words.
- Form: Replaces a wall switch; it can run as a dimmer or as an on/off switch.
- Dimmer: One switch with a dimmer or on/off mode.
- Needs neutral wire: Works without a neutral, but Inovelli says a bypass must then be installed at the light fixture, and it isn't included. Without a neutral there is no energy monitoring, and multi-way setups need an Inovelli aux switch.
- Gangs / channels: Not stated in the pages we saw; it works in single-pole and multi-way setups.
Before you buy
- Zigbee only, so it needs a hub or coordinator; Matter is not confirmed for this model.
- Without a neutral wire a bypass is required, and it isn't included.
- Advanced features such as multi-tap scenes work only on hubs that support them, and Alexa works only with Echo models that have a built-in Zigbee hub.
- Apple Home and Google Home support is not confirmed for this version.
