Schlage Encode Plus (US): what it works with
Schlage · model Encode Plus (BE499WB) · For the US and Canada
Tap an iPhone or Apple Watch and the Schlage Encode Plus opens through Apple Home Key. It is a full deadbolt with a touchscreen keypad and built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and it works with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa without a hub. Home Assistant uses the official Schlage integration over Schlage's cloud. It is not Matter-certified, and SmartThings is not listed. Four AA batteries are included, good for up to six months.

|---|---|---|
| Matter | No | Allegion's knowledge base says the Encode Plus is not Matter-enabled and does not currently support Matter.[6] |
| Apple Home | Yes | Added to Apple Home through HomeKit, including Apple Home Key (tap iPhone or Apple Watch). Home Key needs iPhone XS or later with iOS 15+, or Apple Watch Series 4+ with watchOS 8+.[1],[4] |
| Google Home | Yes | Through the Schlage Home app and Google Assistant: lock, unlock and check status. No hub needed.[2],[3] |
| Amazon Alexa | Yes | Alexa skill via the Schlage Home app. Voice unlock must be switched on in the Alexa app.[2],[5] |
| SmartThings | Unconfirmed | Schlage's pages seen list Alexa, Google and Apple but not SmartThings, and the lock has no Matter. Only forum posts say SmartThings is incompatible, so we do not mark it 'no'. |
| Home Assistant | Yes | Official Schlage integration, which uses Schlage's cloud API for Wi-Fi locks and lists the Encode Plus as working.[8] |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.
Specs that matter for setup
- Radio: Schlage describes it as a deadbolt with built-in Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz). Retailer listings also mention Bluetooth, and Allegion's setup guide has you turn on your phone's Bluetooth to pair, but no Schlage page seen lists Bluetooth as a lock radio.
- Hub: Schlage says Encode products need no hub or adapter; the lock has built-in Wi-Fi.
- Local control: Home Assistant control goes through Schlage's cloud; no source confirms what works with the internet down. Schlage notes voice control stops during a Wi-Fi outage.
- Fit: Sold as a complete smart deadbolt (BE499WB) with Century or Camelot trim, in several finishes.
- Keypad: Touchscreen keypad on the lock with unique access codes for each person.
- Power: Schlage's BE499WB product page lists four AA alkaline batteries (included) and up to six months of battery life in typical use.
