Yale's Smart Lock with Matter (YRD510) swaps in for a US deadbolt and works with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings over Matter on Thread. Home Assistant can add it through its Matter integration. It has a keypad and runs on four AA batteries. Matter and remote access need a Thread border router, such as a Google TV Streamer, HomePod mini or Echo.

|---|---|---|
| Matter | Yes, over Thread | CSA lists Yale Smart Lock with Matter (family SKU YRD510-MT1-ASH, variant -BLK) on Matter 1.4 over Thread, certified 1 April 2025.[1],[5] Other Matter smart locks |
| Apple Home | Via Matter | Yale lists Apple Home with Apple TV 4K (2nd gen or later), HomePod mini or HomePod (2nd gen) as the Thread border router. Yale does not mention Home Key.[1],[2] |
| Google Home | Via Matter | Google's store calls it designed for Google Home. Needs a Matter hub for Google Home and a Thread border router (e.g. Google TV Streamer, Nest Hub 2nd gen, Nest Wifi Pro). Google's store page is still at the old nest_x_yale_lock address.[1],[4] |
| Amazon Alexa | Via Matter | Yale lists remote operations and smart integration only, via Echo devices and eero routers acting as Thread border router.[1],[2] |
| SmartThings | Via Matter | Yale lists SmartThings with the 2018 Hub (V3) or Aeotec Smart Home Hub.[1],[2] |
| Home Assistant | Via Matter | Through Home Assistant's Matter integration, as a Matter-certified lock (the integration documents lock actions). Yale does not name Home Assistant, and HA does not name this lock; needs a Thread border router.[5],[6] |
“Via Matter” means you add it with that platform's Matter controller instead of a brand skill or app. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn't find an official source either way. How we verify.
Specs that matter for setup
- Local control
- Unconfirmed
- Fit
- Replaces deadbolt[1]
- Radio: CSA lists Thread and Bluetooth. Yale says Matter runs over Thread, not Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth is used for setup and the Yale Access app.
- Hub: No Yale hub: the Yale Access app works over Bluetooth in range. Remote access and Matter need a Matter hub and Thread border router (Yale lists Google, Apple, Echo, eero and SmartThings devices). Without Matter, Yale says remote access needs its Connect Wi-Fi Bridge.
- Local control: No source states what works without internet.
- Fit: Replaces a deadbolt with a thumb-turn; the door also needs a separate knob or lever, so single-piece hardware doesn't fit. Yale gives bore 2 1/8 in or 1 1/2 in, backset 2 3/8 in or 2 3/4 in.
- Keypad: Exterior keypad on the lock. Yale ships one physical backup key (page labels it Keyed / Key-Free).
- Power: Four AA alkaline batteries included; Yale says up to 12 months.
Before you buy
- Needs a Matter hub and Thread border router for Matter and remote access; Yale says each Matter app needs its own compatible border router.
- Yale says the lock cannot be configured or operated in the Yale Access app and a Matter app at the same time; once in Matter, entry codes move to the Matter app.
- Fits only doors with a separate deadbolt and knob or lever, not single-piece hardware.
- Alexa gets remote operations and smart integration only, per Yale.
- Google's store page for this lock still sits at the old Nest x Yale Lock address.
