Lutron's PD-5ANS, the Caséta Original Smart Switch, is an on/off wall switch for a 1-gang US wallbox that needs a neutral wire. It talks to the Caséta Smart Bridge (now called Smart Hub) over Lutron's Clear Connect radio, and Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings reach it through that bridge. Home Assistant connects to the bridge over the local network. Without the bridge it works only with Pico remotes and Caséta motion sensors.

Specs that matter for setup
- Radio: The switch uses Lutron's own Clear Connect RF radio, which isn't Wi-Fi, Thread, Zigbee, Z-Wave or Bluetooth, so none of our radio values fit. The Smart Bridge (Smart Hub) talks to it over Clear Connect and joins your router by Ethernet.
- Hub: Lutron says app control, remote access, scenes, schedules and voice assistants come through the Smart Hub (formerly Smart Bridge). Without it, Lutron's spec says the switch talks over Clear Connect only to Pico remotes and Caséta motion sensors.
- Local control: Lutron says the Smart Hub does not use Wi-Fi to reach devices, so the system keeps working locally when the internet is down. Home Assistant's integration talks to the hub over the local network (local push).
- Form: Replaces a standard wall switch in a 1-gang US wallbox; Lutron calls it the Original Smart Switch.
- Dimmer: Lutron's spec labels the PD-5ANS a neutral-wire switch, not a dimmer. Ratings: 600 W incandescent/halogen, 5 A LED, 3 A fan.
- Needs neutral wire: Lutron's spec says the PD-5ANS needs a neutral connection (the PD-5WS-DV is the no-neutral version).
- Gangs / channels: Lutron's spec calls for a 1-gang US wallbox (3.5 in deep recommended, 2.25 in minimum).
Before you buy

- Needs a neutral wire; Lutron sells the PD-5WS-DV for boxes without one.
- On/off only, no dimming.
